World Oceans Day with The MCS
Date Updated: 21/11/2022
All life depends on the sea and Salt-Water Sandals Europe are long time supporters of the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), UK's leading marine charity who works hard to protect and enhance the marine environment. Continue to read our article below and discover more about what they do, how we support them, and how you can help too!

To mark World Oceans Day we’re highlighting the MCS’s vision for seas full of life where nature flourishes and people thrive. They aim to ensure that there are more fish in healthier seas; to improve the way wild fisheries are managed and to influence consumers to be more responsible in their seafood buying choices. They work hard to ensure that the seas are cleaner; to identify key sources of pollution and develop innovative solutions for cleaning it up. The MCS is particularly focussed on ocean recovery by creating secure, well-managed marine protected areas.

Last year the Marine Conservation Society made measurable progress towards their goals. Their campaigns have been supported by tens of thousands of people – helped by the fact that plastic pollution has caught the public eye. But there’s still lots more work to do!

For our part, we took steps to remove plastic packaging entirely from our deliveries, swapping out the plastic bags for tissue paper, and reducing the associated paperwork.

We had a fantastic day out with the MCS when we got involved with the iconic Great British Beach Clean. We organised an event to help tackle ocean pollution at Birling Gap in Eastbourne. Salt-Water staff, families and friends spent the day combing the shores for beach litter. So far the MCS has collected a massive 319 tonnes of litter from beaches around the UK.

We’re also delighted to announce that our Silver Salt-Water Original is now the official MCS sandal and 10% of sales of this style goes directly to the charity.

And you can help too! There are lots of ways to get involved from donating and doing a beach clean, to adopting a turtle. Check the MCS website for more info.

You could also take the Plastic Challenge. For the month of July, the MCS are encouraging people to change their plastic habits by switching to reusable bottles, avoiding plastic food packaging or even cutting out single-use plastic entirely!

Good luck and Happy World Ocean Day from the team at Salt-Water Europe x
