Delia and Juliet of Thornback & Peel

Delia and Juliet of Thornback & Peel

Juliet and Delia, (Thornback & Peel) were introduced in 2003 when a mutual friend realized they shared an aesthetic - both are drawn to the artistic traditions of the nineteenth century, botanical drawings and Beatrix Potter. Both feel a fondness for British eccentricity and the quirks in our traditions.

Previously a florist and a theatre set designer, they teamed up to form Thornback and Peel where they produce beautifully detailed, hand printed homewares which exude the charm of the past and the humour of the present. We love the glorious towering jellies, the handsome pineapples and the perfect peach pig snuffling at the mushrooms. We love their sardine tin print so much which we used it in our Nautical Week flat lay last Summer.

And the shared aesthetic continues through to their personal style – both Delia and Juliet are fans of our sandals and rumour has it between them they own over 10 pairs!

IS IT TRUE THAT BETWEEN YOU YOU OWN OVER 10 PAIRS OF SALT-WATER ORIGINALS?

Almost!  Between us and the T&P team we could probably stock a small shop.

WHERE DO YOU FIND THE INSPIRATION FOR YOUR PRINTS?

We are both drawn towards the aesthetics of natural history and have always loved the intricate draftsmanship of Victorian animal engravings.  Quite a few of our designs are inspired by the books or nursery rhymes we have read to our children, Cow & Buttercup comes from a line in Ring, Ring o Roses and of course Rabbit & Cabbage is greatly influenced by Beatrix Potter.
