About Salt-Water Sandals

Ever wondered where Salt-Water Sandals are from? An original design dating back to the 1940’s,
Salt-Water Sandals were originally made from scrap leather as a way to cope with leather shortages during World War II. Walter Hoy used the scraps to create the first ever pair for his daughter, Margery. Word soon spread and before long families from all over St. Louis were asking if Walter and his new Hoy shoe company could make sandals for their children.

This iconic sandal - The Tan Original - remains our bestseller to this day.

80 years  later and Hoy shoes' continue to deliver classic designs with durable leather comfort and a fashion savvy attitude. Combined with rust-proof metal tongue buckles and produced in a wide range of colours and designs, the enduring quality & proven heritage of their sandals is unquestionable.

Salt-Water Sandals are defined by their tough little-way stitched, vulcanised rubber sole, whilst the Sun-San range is built upon a more bouncy urethane bonded base.

Both ranges are made from 100% leather which is coated with a water resistant sealant and they all mould to the user's feet with repeated wear. The metallic rust proof brass buckles allow straps to be adjusted for narrow or wide feet.

Why are they called Salt-Water Sandals you ask? Because they are great for running in and out of
the ocean (or even splashing in puddles!) and they can be hand washed using a gentle detergent. The perfect summer sandal for adults and kids, to be worn in both wet and dry conditions.

Are Salt-Water Sandals unisex? Yes! Our classic design means Salt-Water Sandals can be enjoyed by anyone. We also offer an array of colours to suit all tastes. The perfect toddler sandals, kids sandals and adult sandals. In 2023 we introduced larger sizes across our bestselling styles for more opportunity for men to join the Saltie family.
